On the way to the Hamburg Takt - AWHT Model project to increase the attractiveness of public transport
Project period: 01/2022 – 12/2024
The aim of the pilot project is to improve the quality of service and offerings in order to increase the attractiveness and use of public transport.
The Hamburg Senate aims to reduce CO2 emissions in Hamburg by 55% compared to 1990 levels. To achieve this, the transportation sector must cut CO2 emissions by 1.4 million tons by 2030 compared to 2017 levels.
The greatest leverage lies in the shift from private cars to zero-emission public transit. The market share of public transit in total transportation is set to increase significantly from 22% in 2017 to 30% in 2030.
To achieve this goal, public transit must be reimagined in terms of both offerings and service to make it possible for people to forgo private cars. In addition, new mobility services must be integrated that prioritize using rather than owning. The pilot project pursues a strategy that links traditional public transit with alternative services and tailors the entire system to individual mobility needs.
The central tool of this pilot project is the hvv switch platform, around whose further development all other sub-areas of the overall project are organized. Through the hvv switch platform, sharing and on-demand services can be deeply integrated into the public mobility offering. This enables the overall system to achieve a new level of service quality. In the further development of the hvv switch platform, the focus is, on the one hand, on developing attractive fare options, such as the integration of a mobility budget.
Additionally, plans are in place to integrate anonymous prepaid cards and subscription cards into the hvv app. On the other hand, further integration of information and operational systems is planned (integration of multiple services into the switch platform, an app-based system for people with visual impairments, and an information and operational system for ferry services).
The implementation of a ride-pooling service integrated into the public transit fare structure by MOIA will further improve the quality of offerings and services.
