SGEC Sino-German Electro-Mobility Innovation and Support Center

Project period: 01/2018 – 08/2023

The development of electromobility in China and Germany is characterized by different framework conditions. Access to the mutually important markets requires knowledge of the respective (safety) technical requirements. This knowledge is strengthened in SGEC through active exchange and cooperation.

Since January 2018, the cross-regional activities of the German-Chinese cooperation on electromobility between the Federal Ministry of Digital and Transport (BMDV) and the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) have been carried out under the umbrella of the virtual “Sino-German Electro Mobility Innovation and Support Center” (SGEC).

The SGEC is operated by NOW and CATARC as the lead organizations of their respective ministries. It provides the framework for continuing partnerships among stakeholders in the regions, for transregional scientific exchange, and for carrying out market-oriented research and development projects with industry participation.

From a German perspective, it aims to advance the market introduction and ramp-up of electric vehicles (battery and fuel cell) in China for German companies, building on China’s experience in the field of electric mobility in research and development. National partners from both countries, particularly universities and research institutions as well as industry partners, are involved in this process.

The following thematic areas form the basis for SGEC activities. All newly initiated German-Chinese cooperation projects will be assigned to one of the following thematic areas:

  1. Battery-electric mobility, including charging infrastructure
  2. Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, including hydrogen infrastructure
  3. Safety (batteries, hydrogen, and fuel cells)
  4. Integration of renewable energies

hysolutions oversees the aforementioned topic area 2 within SGEC. Key tasks include monitoring developments in the Chinese market, technological advancements, vehicle trends, as well as political frameworks and the funding landscape. Initiating binational projects and fostering exchange between stakeholders in both countries is also part of hysolutions’ work.
